Art is an expression of human creative skill and imagination. Some ways you express yourself is by drama, chorus, arts and craft or literature class. For an example, before I took drama and chorus classes, I was shy and introverted and it helped me open out more to others. Being in drama or chorus class made me feel I was a part of something bigger than all of us. If you’re a student and are introverted one of these art programs will help your social life. Arts Education should be kept in schools because it is beneficial to students, schools and to the workforce.

One of the reasons arts education should be kept in schools is because of how it benefit students. For example, art can benefit students by encouraging them and involving them in a learning process, art can stimulates memory, help improve their communication, promotes relationships, and provides a path for building proficiency. Today there is a demand for people to draw things. For example, cartoon characters, advertising signs and graphic design. Students can develop their skill by attending art class in school and prepare themselves for the profitable career. In drama a student can improve their communication skills and develop long lasting relationships. Actors more than often are required to remember long scripts which stimulate their memory to retain and recite the part. The arts develop a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance, and goal-setting skills needed to succeed in your career. Not only does art benefits students, but it benefits the school too.

Another reason arts should be kept in schools is because of the benefits it brings to the schools. The arts would improve the success rate for the students in school; which would be helpful to the schools. In a well-documented national study using a federal database of over 25,000 middle and high school students, researchers from the University of California at Los Angeles found students with high arts involvement performed better on standardized achievement tests than students with low arts involvement. Another reason why arts education should stay in schools is because it would be beneficial to the workforce.

The art programs help students to prepare for their independent life. By being a part of the arts, it will strengthen critical-thinking, creative thinking, communication and decision making skills. The workforces want people who are creative, who has effective communication skills and who knows how to make good decisions. The arts program also develops important values, including team-building skills in the students. Today the employees are looking for these types of skills before they hire students.

In conclusion, taking away art programs would be wrong; it is truly a valuable part of education. Thomas Merton-“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” This means that art is way to find who you are and a way to express yourself in numerous ways. Think about what the world would be without music, drawing, or creative writing. How would businesses rise without propaganda? How will people entertain themselves? Without the arts there would not be anyone to illustrate billboards or to be creative enough to write scripts for movies and commercials and there would not be anyone to make music. Take it into consideration to keep arts education in schools.
